The Dominican Republic is entering a new era of luxury travel, with a wave of world-class hotel openings, exclusive resort developments and experiential hospitality concepts transforming the Caribbean’s most visited destination.
With the arrival of St Regis in 2025 and the flagship luxury brands Banyan Tree and Rosewood debuting in 2027 and 2029 respectively, the country is strengthening its position as one of the Caribbean’s most sophisticated destinations for affluent travellers.
One of the most significant luxury openings in the Caribbean, The St. Regis Cap Cana Resort officially opened in May 2025, marking the iconic brand’s first property in the Dominican Republic. Located within the exclusive enclave of Cap Cana, the five-star resort features 200 guestrooms and suites, private residences, signature dining concepts and direct access to the Punta Espada Golf Course and pristine Caribbean beaches. Rates currently start from approximately £450 per night.
The once-untouched region of Miches, on the northeastern coast of the island, is rapidly becoming one of the Caribbean’s most exciting luxury destinations, combining responsible, sustainable development, protected landscapes and world-class hospitality.
Zemi Miches Punta Cana All-Inclusive Resort, Curio Collection by Hilton, which opened in June 2025, is a five-star beachfront retreat overlooking Playa Esmeralda. The resort features 500 rooms, suites and beachfront bungalows inspired by Taíno culture, alongside wellness experiences and immersive gastronomy. Current packages start from around £1,249 per person for seven nights, depending on season and market, flights excluded.
Luxury adults-only brand Secrets Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa opened in July 2025 on a secluded stretch of coastline in Miches. The five-star all-inclusive resort offers 500 suites, many with ocean views or direct pool access, complemented by gourmet dining, wellness experiences and Hyatt’s Unlimited-Luxury® concept. Rates for premium all-inclusive stays approximately £375 night. The hotel’s sister property, Dreams Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa, expands the destination’s appeal to families and multigenerational travellers, reinforcing Miches’ emergence as a leading premier family destination in the Caribbean.
Punta Cana continues to redefine Caribbean luxury with the opening of W Punta Cana Adult All-Inclusive, the first all-inclusive property from the W Hotels brand worldwide. Opened in 2025, the resort introduces a lifestyle-led approach to luxury travel centred on design, music, wellness and immersive experiences.
Further elevating the country’s luxury offering, the Singaporean Banyan Group has confirmed its arrival in the Dominican Republic in January 2027 through a partnership with Dominican developer Gesproin.
The hospitality group will introduce two new properties in Punta Cana: Angsana Cap Cana and Cassia Punta Cana, both designed around the principles of experiential luxury, wellness and residential-style hospitality.
Angsana Cap Cana, located within the exclusive Cap Cana community, will feature 296 residences and a lifestyle concept that combines wellness, gastronomy and immersive local experiences. Cassia Punta Cana will offer a hybrid hotel-residence model tailored to travellers seeking longer stays and authentic connections with the destination.
Together, the projects represent a new generation of luxury travel experiences in the Dominican Republic, where wellness, sustainability and cultural immersion are increasingly shaping visitor demand.
Rosewood Punta Cana
Among the Dominican Republic’s most anticipated luxury openings is Rosewood Punta Cana, scheduled to open in 2029 as the brand’s first property in the country. Developed in partnership with Grupo Puntacana, the resort will occupy 50 acres of prime beachfront within the Puntacana Resort community, just ten minutes from Punta Cana International Airport.
Designed to embody Rosewood’s renowned A Sense of Place® philosophy, the five-star resort will feature 78 suites, including a collection of highly exclusive overwater villas — a first for the Dominican Republic luxury market. Guests will have access to eight dining venues, a signature Asaya wellness centre, and curated experiences inspired by the destination’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
The arrival of Rosewood Punta Cana further cements the Dominican Republic’s growing appeal among ultra-luxury travellers and places the destination alongside other prestigious Rosewood locations in the Caribbean and around the world.
