Samoa’s 64th Independence celebration is set to take place next month over 3 days from the 1st to the 3rd of June. The festivities will feature traditional entertainment, variety shows, and sporting competitions, among many other activities. A highlight of the event will be the revival of some of Samoa’s traditional sports, including Kilikiki and the Fautasi race. These exciting activities not only showcase our historical roots but also unite communities in celebration and pride.
Kilikiki, often referred to as Samoan cricket, has been a beloved pastime for generations. Played on sandy fields and beaches, Kilikiki is more than just a sport; it embodies the spirit of community and connection among families and friends. Teams, often composed of members from neighboring villages, compete in friendly matches that foster camaraderie and healthy rivalry.
