The Catalan Government declared 2023 the Year of Lluís Domènech i Montaner in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of his death. His life and work will be promoted through exhibitions, lectures, conversations, tribute concerts, conferences, and more activities organized in his honour over the course of the year.
Lluís Domenech i Montaner (1850-1923) was one of the most influential architects in the Catalan modernist movement, but also a politician, teacher, and thinker. He was one of the leading practitioners of Catalan Art Nouveau architecture along with Antoni Gaudí and Josep Puig i Cadafalch. His buildings stand as symbols of Catalan pride, with the use of modern techniques such as steel-framing, together with his characteristic ornamentation made of ironwork, ceramics, woodworks, and stained glass.
