About the Region

Located in the western Indian Ocean, the Seychelles combine lush granitic islands with low-lying coral atolls rich in biodiversity. The archipelago is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites—Vallée de Mai and Aldabra Atoll—alongside protected marine parks and forest reserves. Visitors can expect a welcoming ambience, varied accommodation options and an emphasis on conservation-led travel.

Why Visit the Seychelles Islands

The Seychelles are celebrated for their unspoilt scenery, exceptional beaches and outstanding marine life. Travellers come for a mix of relaxation, soft adventure and natural discovery, from hiking rainforest trails to snorkelling among vibrant reefs. The islands offer a balanced pace, pairing eco-friendly stays with opportunities to encounter unique species such as the giant tortoise and coco de mer palm.

Sub-Regions

The Seychelles’ main islands each offer a distinct experience, making them well suited to multi-island itineraries.
Mahé
Mahé is the largest island and the main gateway to the archipelago, home to the capital Victoria and the island’s international airport. Its mountainous interior, including Morne Seychellois National Park, provides forested trails and panoramic viewpoints, while its coastline features well-loved beaches such as Beau Vallon. Mahé blends cultural sites, local markets and a wide choice of resorts, villas and guesthouses.
Praslin
Praslin offers a more laid-back atmosphere with sweeping bays and hillside views. It is best known for Vallée de Mai, a UNESCO-listed palm forest where the endemic coco de mer grows. The island also features several renowned beaches, including Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette, and serves as a convenient base for boat trips to Curieuse, Cousin and St Pierre.
La Digue
La Digue is a compact island characterised by its slow pace, traditional Creole charm and bicycle-friendly roads. It is home to Anse Source d’Argent, frequently named among the world’s most beautiful beaches due to its dramatic granite formations and shallow lagoons. Guesthouses, small hotels and scenic coastal paths reinforce its reputation as the most relaxed of the main islands.

Culture & Lifestyle

Seychelles’ culture is rooted in Creole heritage, expressed through language, cuisine, music and daily rhythms. Local dishes feature fresh seafood, coconut-rich curries and tropical fruits, complemented by traditional performances such as moutya and sega. Community, respect for nature and a welcoming “island time” approach shape everyday life, supported by a strong commitment to environmental protection.

Nature & Landscapes

The islands’ landscapes range from jungle-clad mountains to coral reefs teeming with marine life. Iconic granite boulders frame sheltered lagoons, while dense forests shelter rare species and ancient palms. Beyond the Inner Islands, remote atolls offer pristine habitats, extensive reefs and exceptional biodiversity.

Notable Places

The Seychelles showcase a collection of natural and cultural highlights, including Vallée de Mai on Praslin and Aldabra Atoll, one of the world’s largest raised coral atolls. Renowned beaches such as Anse Source d’Argent, Anse Lazio and Anse Intendance feature prominently in global rankings. Other key sites include Beau Vallon on Mahé, Curieuse Marine National Park, the capital Victoria, and the rainforest-covered trails of Morne Seychellois National Park.

Best Time to Visit

The Seychelles enjoy warm, stable weather throughout the year, with average temperatures around 27–30°C. The drier season from May to October brings cooler breezes from the southeast trade winds, making it ideal for hiking and sailing. The wetter months from November to March offer calmer seas and warmer conditions, while April–May and October–November deliver balanced weather and excellent underwater visibility.
