CloseVisitMalta is proud to announce its support of the internationally acclaimed Rolex Middle Sea Race 2025. Considered one of the world’s most prestigious offshore yacht races, over 120 yachts will set sail from the Grand Harbour in Malta to circumnavigate Sicily along an anticlockwise route.
The 2025 edition promises to bring an atmosphere unlike any other across Valletta and the Three Cities. Spectators are invited to witness the spectacular Start of the Race on Saturday, 18th October 2025, and take part in an unforgettable celebration of maritime sport, Maltese culture, and Mediterranean hospitality.
Key Race Dates
- Coastal Yacht Race: Wednesday, 15 October 2025, at 09:00 hrs – Marsamxett Harbour
- Rolex Middle Sea Race Start: Saturday, 18 October 2025, at 11:00 hrs – Grand Harbour
The official race start will be an extraordinary spectacle, featuring seven different yachting class starts, each sounded by the cannons of the Saluting Battery at 10-minute intervals. The first start is at 11:00 hrs. The starting line, stretching between the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta and Fort St Angelo in Birgu, is among the most iconic and photogenic race starts in the sailing world.

Spectators can enjoy prime public vantage points, including:
- Upper Barrakka Gardens, Valletta
- Great Siege Bell and Mediterranean Conference Centre Road
- Sea Level Ring Road of Valletta from Fort Lascaris, along Quarry Wharf
- Fort St Angelo, Birgu
- Senglea Point – Gardens (Vedette)
- Birgu Waterfront
Celebrations in Valletta & Birgu – 18 October
The Grand Harbour area will come alive with historic pageantry and live performances:
- Valletta: The In Guardia Reenactment Troupe will march between the Grandmasters’ Palace and Upper Barrakka Gardens.
- Birgu: The Jackson Pipe Band will perform between 09:30 and 10:30 hrs below Fort St Angelo.
- Birgu: Bormla Scouts will parade along the waterfront from Birgu to Fort St Angelo between 10:30hr and 12:30hr
- Birgu: In Guardia Reenactors will stand at attention atop the walls of Fort St Angelo, flying the colours of the Knights of St John.
Heritage Malta Invites You to Two Prestigious Forts
In celebration of the Rolex Middle Sea Race, Heritage Malta is offering exclusive access on 18th October:
- Fort St Elmo, Valletta – Enjoy half-price entry. This elevated viewing point provides a unique perspective of the race, while the War Museum offers a journey through Malta’s maritime history from prehistoric times to the present.
- Fort St Angelo, Birgu – Experience the thrill of the race from this commanding fortress. An exclusive VIP area for 100 guests will be set up from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, offering unrivalled views, an open bar, a selection of food items, and admission to the Fort.
- Tickets: €35 adults / €30 Heritage Malta members
- Available at all Heritage Malta sites, museums, or online via Heritage Malta and Sail and Savour.
