The UK is not the only island nation to be celebrating a Jubilee this year. The paradise islands of Samoa in the South Pacific marks its 50th Anniversary of Independence in 2012. To celebrate, Samoa Tourism Authority, hoteliers and participating UK operators are launching ‘Mea’alofa Special*’ offers to entice UK visitors to Samoa’s shores to experience the real South Pacific.

In the Samoan language the word ‘Mea’alofa’ means ‘gift’ and some of Samoa’s hotels have giftwrapped incredible discounted prices making Samoa an even more irresistible South Pacific extension for those travelling to Australia or New Zealand  between 1 October 2012 and 31 March 2013*.

Samoa’s newest boutique resort, the luxurious Seabreeze Resort and neighbouring Sinalei Reef Resort are offering major discounts on room nights making a South Pacific extension to Samoa on a trip down under an offer too good too refuse. While for clients that simply want to hop over to Samoa for a few days from Auckland or Sydney, the hotels in the capital Apia such as the four-star Tanoa Tusitala and Samoan Outrigger are offering 4 nights for the price of 3. Apia is a laid back picturesque town on the waterfront, home to historical monuments, superb markets and an enjoyable nightlife. Close by is the Robert Louis Stevenson museum dedicated to the ‘Treasure Island’ author who spent the last four years of his life in Samoa. A day tour exploring the rest of Upolu island will showcase Samoa’s breathtaking scenery and coastal villages.

For those with more time to explore Samoa’s islands, sister island Savaii is tempting visitors across from the main island of Upolu with similar free night offers at the luxurious Le Lagoto Resort and nearby Savaii Lagoon Resort.

Samoa’s 50th Independence Day Celebrations promise to kick off in true laid back style as one of the most successful reggae bands in the world, renowned British group UB40, perform at an outdoor concert in Apia on Friday 1 June, one of the first official events of Samoa’s Golden Jubilee.

2012 is the year to ‘Celebrate Samoa’, further anniversary celebrations include an Independence Ball, cultural performances, a gospel concert, traditional fautasi regatta, arts and craft exhibitions and the International Tatau Festival.  Samoa has a deep and long standing connection with tattooing and the festival will commemorate the 2,000 year history of the craft.

Samoa offers visitors an authentic Polynesian experience with a fascinating culture to explore. Its ten islands are surrounded by miles of turquoise coral reefs, ideal for world class snorkelling and sailing. Pristine beaches and stunning coastline sit with a backdrop of Samoa’s lush rainforest interior perfect for hiking and cycling. The main islands of Upolu and Savaii have a wide spectrum of accommodation available from luxury boutique retreats to traditional beach fale resorts.  Samoa is an ideal extension to a trip to Australia, New Zealand or as part of a Pacific itinerary with flights from Auckland, Sydney, Fiji and Hawaii. Make Samoa the pinnacle of your journey down under!
