Special thanks to our Diamond partners PR Newswire and wine sponsors Cote du Rhone wines.

This evening marks a special year in the ANTOR calendar as it is our diamond Jubilee year. 60 years since the industry came together to recognise the work of foreign tourist boards abroad and to develop a fraternity and bond that is quite unique from any other association.

Our industry remains ever changing and we are all joined in a common cause to have Governments around the world recognise the power of tourism and its contribution to economies.

So ANTOR members are united in our disappointment in the UK Coalition Government, in what can only be interpreted as a downgrade of tourism in its agenda, by removing such a committed representative in Government, John Penrose MP, as dedicated Minister for Tourism.

It remains to be seen if Justine Greening’s move from the transport department leads the way for a positive approach on increasing air capacity.  As for the future of APD this is something that we will have to wait and see. However, ANTOR is proud of its contribution to the success of the Fair Tax for Flying Campaign with our message now reaching over 100 MP’s in Parliament - a voice that surely cannot go ignored.

2012 has been a memorable year not only as ANTOR’s milestone but that of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and we congratulate Her Majesty on her joyous celebrations.

We must also congratulate Londoners and the City of London for the spectacular show laid on for the world, in this year’s Olympics and Para-Olympic Games. I doubt that there remains an individual who was not moved by the power of camaraderie in this city throughout July and August. We wish host nation and ANTOR member Brazil success for 2016.

And so to ANTOR’s diamond Jubilee. What better way to mark our diamond anniversary than with a diamond? Or so thought the Board but what would we do with that diamond?

So I am delighted this evening while joined by our media friends, to announce the launch of The ANTOR Diamond Treasure Hunt.

Partnering with the TTG and The World Travel Market, ANTOR is inviting members of the UK travel trade (agents and tour operators) to log on to the ANTOR website and answer a series of questions which may take you around the world. There will be various links into the website from our participating partners.

The prize will be an authentic solitaire Gassan diamond kindly donated from Holland, by the Dutch Tourist Board.

Between now and the World Travel Market you will be inundated by coverage and details of how to participate in the TTG and through various social media sites. The lucky winner will be drawn on Thursday at WTM. And for any agent disappointed not to win the diamond there will be many supporting prizes representing ANTOR’s 60 strong membership.

Finally, before we proceed with the rest of this evening's activities, I’d like to draw you to the date for next year’s Meet the Media event which will take place on September 24th 2013.

Thank you once again for your support.  I’d like to also thank the support of the ANTOR secretariat and the Board which is made up of Gibraltar, Jersey, Poland, Quebec, Korea, Czech Republic, Malaysia and St Lucia.
